Optimising for searches and AI answers that already name your brand, rather than for the generic category.
Brand SEO covers the queries and prompts that already include your brand name: "is [brand] good for X", "[brand] pricing", "[brand] vs [competitor]", or an AI assistant asked directly about you. It is a different job from ranking for a generic category term, because the searcher already knows who you are and is deciding whether to trust or choose you, not discovering you for the first time.
The failure mode is treating brand and non-brand search as the same problem. A site can rank well for its own name, where competition is low and intent is direct, while being invisible on the category terms that bring in new buyers. Or the reverse: strong on generic terms but with a thin or outdated brand presence that lets a comparison page or a review site control the narrative on searches for its own name.
For AI answer engines specifically, brand SEO also means controlling what a model says when asked about you directly, not just what a page ranks for. A model's answer to "what is [brand]" draws on its training knowledge plus whatever it retrieves live, so a clear, consistent, up to date self-description matters as much as a page's on-page SEO.
Semantyra deliberately separates the two. Prompt Explorer excludes branded prompts by design, since the harder and more valuable signal is whether a model recommends a brand unprompted. A separate brand-understanding check measures what a model already knows and says about the brand directly.
